【弘道館開催！】宗一郎 能あそび　―独演仕舞十番―Soichiro Noh Play

Experience the world of Noh from various perspectives through “playing” with Noh.

At Yuuhisai Koudoukan, we have been continuously exploring attempts to “play” Noh from various angles under the concept of “Noh Asobi.”

At “Koudoukan”, an educational institution that gathered 3,000 students from all over the country during the Edo period, Hayashi Soichiro, the 14th generation of the Kyoto Kanze Hayashi family which has continued since the Edo period, will dissect Noh theater from all angles and convey new interpretations. We hope to anticipate and create the future of Noh theater together with the participants.

The next theme is “Ten Solo Shimai Performances.”
In this event, the performer dances the highlights from ten Noh plays in the “Shimai” form, attempting to perform solo. The performer dances in formal montsuki hakama.

You can enjoy tea service and sweets related to the theme of the performance.

＜Time＞

• Please arrive early for tea service before the performance, which starts at 6:30 PM.
  • 6:00 PM – 6:30 PM: Tea service (Sweets related to the theme will be served)

• The performances will include “Yugao,” “Hashitomi,” “Suma Genji,” “Tamakazura,” “Ukifune,” “Kamo,” “Tsunemasa,” “Genji Kuyo,” “Fuji Daiko,” and “Kuzu.”Shimai is a Noh dance form where only the most engaging highlight scenes from a Noh play are extracted and performed in formal montsuki hakama.

  In “Noh Asobi,” we continue the challenge of performing ten pieces at once by a single performer. How will the performer express ten distinct pieces alone?

  Enjoy the unique experience of viewing Shimai up close, in a Japanese tatami room.
